Questions and Details
Below are the some of the most frequently asked questions regarding this event.
Are a costume and a mask required to attend the Tortured Hearts Ball?
A costume is required. Although this is a masquerade ball, a mask is optional. Face make up is acceptable for entry, as well. The important thing is to dress for the theme of the event. Costumes can be hand made, store bought, or a combination.
Can I cosplay as an anime or manga character?
Yes, you can. It would be best if that character fit within the theme of the event, but a costume is all that is necessary. If your anime or manga character is dressed in normal or regular every day or street attire, that will not work. So please choose your costume with the theme in mind – that this is a dark masquerade ball.
Is the Tortured Hearts Ball a singles event?
The Tortured Hearts Ball is for everyone who wants to attend a dark themed masquerade ball. This is not a singles event, but people of all relationship statuses are invited to attend the Tortured Hearts Ball. Singles and couples are invited to attend. We will, however, have ways for singles to interact.
Is this event all ages?
This is an 18 and up event only. You must be 21+ to purchase alcohol at the event.
Can I upgrade to VIP if I bought a general admission ticket?
You may upgrade at any time up until three days before the event. Some of the specialty items for VIP require a lead time and the hotel needs a headcount for the total number of VIPs for catering purposes, so the final day to upgrade to VIP is on February 12.
Is VIP all ages?
No, VIP is for 21+ only, due to the drink tokens and mead.
Is there reentry into the Tortured Heats Ball?
There is reentry, but you must keep your wristband. If you lose your wristband, you will not be allowed reentry. If your wristband gets damaged, bring it back to registration and we will replace it. If you lose it and wish to reenter, you will have to buy a new ticket.
Is the Handlery Hotel ADA accessible?
Yes, it is. There are ramps for anyone in a wheelchair or motorized scooters or similar mobility devices.
I cannot come anymore. Can I get a refund?
You can request a refund up until the day before the event (February 20 will be the last day any ticket refunds are issued). No refunds will be given if you did not attend the event, no matter what your situation is. No refunds are given if you bought a ticket and did not attend (or if you did attend and did not enjoy it).
What is the difference in the ticket tiers?
There is no difference in accessibility and benefits afforded between ticket tiers 1, 2, and 3. The only difference is each subsequent tier is more expensive than the previous one. VIP tickets do come with additional benefits, and you can learn more by clicking here.
Is there food at the Tortured Hearts Ball?
The Handlery Hotel has two restaurants but they have not posted what the hours of each will be during the event. It would be best to have dinner before you arrive. VIP tickets include an appetizer reception.
